The Story of Fast Romantics

Fast Romantics formed in Calgary, Canada. It was in the heat of an indie-rock dance party. It was really late at night and there may have been whiskey or beer involved, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is that they all decided to make music together, and thank goodness they did.

They’ve played Virgin fest along with Flaming Lips and Stone Temple Pilots. Opened for other awesome bands like The Stills and the Von Bondies. Won radio contests, and toured Canada twice.

In 2009, they played a rock show in an Albertan farmer’s garage during a tornado. They were also flown to New York City by Spin Magazine and a fashion designer named John Varvatos, just to rock a giant sweaty concert at the former CBGB’s. And then there was that time that Jeremy Piven cut in and played drums with them. But it doesn't really matter if they’re in a farmhouse, on a legendary New York stage, or jamming with Ari Gold. Fast Romantics just want to make people feel good.

This year, their music was in television shows like Vampire Diaries and Pretty Little Liars. They also worked with producer Howard Redekopp. He's produced the New Pornographers, Tegan and Sara, and Mother Mother. That's the sort of name-dropping that means that he is super good at making music. Also, Mike Fraser has mixed everything they’ve done. He’s mixed bands like Franz Ferdinand, Elvis Costello, and Sam Roberts.

Fast Romantics mean business. In fact they just set up camp in Toronto just so they can drive around and play one thousand shows a year. The new EP will be released in Summer 2010, but until then, you can download a couple free tracks. Feel free to email the band here. Fast Romantics are now working on their sophomore LP, and currently doing several months of shows in the US and Canada, including a showcase at SXSW, in March/April 2011.

America, we’re rolling our way into you.

March 01

Hey America. We’re here. Crossing the border as we type this. Soon we’ll be rolling our big white bus through your spacious skies and amber waves of grain. First stop: Philadelphia. We’ll be at Millcreek Tavern on March 2, so come get your rock out.

And then we’re playing Fontana’s on March 3 in NYC, and Union Hall in Brooklyn on March 4. This all leads up to a showcase at SxSW in Austin at Speakeasy Kabaret on March 19, and a couple dates afterwards in Memphis and Chicago. For all the details on our American dates, check out the “shows” section by clicking the link at the top of the page.

We’ll be performing live on MTV…. Live.

March 01

As the name of the program suggests, Fast Romantics will be making it’s debut performance on national television this March. We’ll be playing a brand new, unreleased song on MTV Live on March 9, around 6pm.

You don’t even have to leave your couch to catch this one. The rest of our 3-song performance will be available on mtv.ca as well.

Thank-you Toronto!

Fast Romantics in bed with the Grinch

January 02

Hey all,

Hope you had a great Christmas holiday! We got a little too deep into the egg nog this year and spit out a remake of the classic “Grinch” song. Didn’t really expect it to get picked up but it seems radio stations across the country played it throughout the holiday, and the video we made for it is getting passed around a lot.

If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out:

Lots of news about to get spat out for ya. Big Toronto show announcements for February. Tour and SxSW in March/April. New Record coming. And also, one of us is having a sex change operation.

We love you.
